This is driving me CRAZY!!!

It has the electric choke, and the spring works fine( used 12v battery on clips, and it unwound). Without choke rod connected, choke-plate opens/closes freely. Put on rod, plate closes, but then only opens to 2/3 (Off fast-idle, cam drops/raises freely). The more I bend the rod, it binds up. HOW do I adjust the rod to get full open/closure??????

What are we working on? A Holley or Rochester?
A picture of the choke assembly would help also.

Title stated 4160.
I assume you opened the throttle to allow the linkage to fall out and close the choke all the way.
If you never touch the throttle the choke will not close all the way.

Sorry I read it wrong you are not getting the choke to open all the way.

Have you tried turning the choke assembly and see if it will open all the way.
I usually set a choke to just barely close.
If I set them to close tight with tension many will not open all the way.

I have tried multiple things, no success. Opened throttle, dropped fast-idle cam, and lift choke rod up. It will almost close the plate, but then pushing rod down, I get to 2/3rd to 3/4th open. Only thing I can think of doing is keep bending the rod.

I wish I had one with a choke on it I would go look at it and take a picture.
I wonder if someone here has a picture.
Or a length of that rod.

I do not use a choke, I do dial in a lot of initial advance.
18 minimum initial advance and sometimes I run 24 initial.
That probably helps.
Make sure the squirter works though.
I had one accelerator pump go out and it was very hard to start the car without a choke.

VALUABLE lesson learned!!!! First, watch EXACTLY when you take something apart! Second, observe videos CLOSELY! Third, listen to other forum responders! The choke-rod goes BELOW the red-cam arm!!!!! Put it together CORRECTLY, and that baby adjusts/works like a dream! Thank you all for contributing to this "learner"!
