Back in the early days did new 400s come with shim head gaskets?

Curious why, to my knowledge, noone makes them?

From my research, for the street, all thats available is in the .039+ range

I didn't think those would be too good a street application? Am I wrong?

I'm in the unfortunate position of having a fresh 400 shortblock with full dish rebuilder pistons (+.040 in the hole).

With FP blue gaskets and vortec heads I should be right at 9.01:1

Trying to make my final decision as to which cam to stick in it.

Hi Dirtrocker, try to avoid using "copper" on the street, if they're not installed properly, you'll end up with nothing but grief. I have probably a couple thousand individual head gaskets in stock from "old" inventory, mainly the "Victors". It'll take me to the middle of the coming week to get to the shop and then I'll get back to you. I know we use to carry them from G.M., when they were being supplied by "Victor". I'm not sure I have any left. Thanks, Gary in N.Y.
P.S. If possible send an e-mail to "[email protected]" Monday just as a reminder and I'll get back to you.

With the popularity of the 400 nowdays........why doesn't someone offer them?

Was there a problem with the shim gaskets sealing at the steam holes or something?
