The late model stuff I have uses intake bolt patterns like Vortec heads. I think that change was in '92 or so - prior years is fine. You can, however, find an intake for 4.3 vortec heads that uses a spread bore carb pattern. HTH

Thanks for the response. I have a 1985 GM Intake manifold 4 BBL.that I'm told came off of an Astro Van. Am I understanding you correctly that a pre-92 vortec head will bolt to this intake. Obviously, I'm trying to go with as late of an engine from the boneyard as I can. Thanks, rb66677

The thing you have to watch out for is clearance on the bottom of the intake. Many of the early ones won't clear the balance shaft in the later blocks and there's not enough material to be able to adapt 'em. I think the balance shaft came along in '91 or so???

ok, so going back to your earlier thread, an aftermarket intake to be used with a carb, will bolt up to a 2002-2003 engine fuel injected heads? thanks, rb6667

The intake I have will fit my '93 with a balance shaft since it's very shallow, no heat crossover under the throttle body, but it has different bolt pattern - just like 350's with vortecs. I'm just not sure how the new ones look and fit or bolt pattern. Sorry I couldn't be of more help, but you might just have to either try it on yours or find a long block somewhere you could test fit it on.

Hmmm be careful, I thought they changed to the Vortec bolt pattern and ports in 96. Same as the small blocks. The bolt pattern maybe have been used before that, but the ports will not line up with pre 96 heads.
