In the relatively near future I'm going to be looking to pick up some 4.10 gears for the 12 bolt. I'm going to need the set with the thick ring gear so I can still use my 3 series carrier. Any thoughts on what a nice used set would go for? I saw a set on Ebay. Had a price of $120. Does that sound about right?

Buy new.

Not enough $$ difference for the peace of mind of a new set.

No amount of money "saved" would make the whine of a used set any easier to endure. Whine may be the reason they're for sale.

But, if you're a gambler... go ahead, roll the dice.

As Euell said, go with a new set. A few extra bucks is cheap insurance. Just something else to consider, gambling on a used set you may end up with a non-matched ring & pinion unless you buy from someone you know.

We bought a used set at a swap and no matter how hard I tried I couldnt get them set up to get a good contact pattern. They looked great. I would sell them for $60 plus shipping if you want to try them. Just buy new not worth the hassle. I learned from experience.
