i've put together a 396ci big block for my chevelle with the following

-keith black 13.1 forged pistons
-eagle h-beam rods(floating pins)
-factory 427 steel crank(chromed)
-factory over the counter L-78/LS6 intake
-factory over the counter L-78/LS6 rectangle port heads(2.25i/1.88e,109cc chamber)
-comp cams nostalgia plus LS6 cam
-holley 700cfm double pumper
-stainless steel 1.7 roller rockers

it made 339.37hp at 5500rpms and 331.25ft lbs at 4600rpms

i'm asking what ya'll think about it, and if any of ya'll have built 396s and what was they built with and what kind of numbers they put out.

Is this a street or strip only motor?

Whats the calculated compression with your 13.1 slugs and 109cc heads? (11.5-12.0?)

Is the 339hp/331trq a chassis or engine dyno? They seem like rear wheel #'s,if thats at the crank it's not very good at all.

Also,i would think the fairly short cam timing on the ls6 copy cam would not be enough cam for the what may be too high of compression your running possibly leading to detonation issues especially if this is a street motor running on 93 pump fuel.

Seems low to me. That comes out to roughly 400HP at the crank. That thing should be making HP up to 6000rpm. Carb seems too small so that might be part of the problem.

-its a street/strip motor
-the pistons i ordered were supposed to be L-78 piston dome, but they sent me pistons that didn't fit in my heads(my granddads 13.1 pistons he has fit in them) so we had to gring them down to fit.
-and its rear wheel numbers
-and it does good on 92octane gas

i'm going to go with procomp aluminum 320cc heads, xtreme energy hydraulic cam(.588in./.593ex.), holley 750cfm main body that gets rid of the choke tower because i've never had to use it during the winter, march underdrive pulleys, and hooker super comp ceramic coated headers.
