Hello, does anyone happen to have a picture of the spring location on a 1970 Chevelle SS 396/350 HP engine? I have checked the archives and even my books but can find nothing... Any help would be greatly appreciated... Thanks, as usual, Jeff:beers:

Thanks, mine has the spring attached to the little ear that comes off of your throttle mount. It is the ear hanging down closest to the carb nut...
It looks as though you are running an automatic carb? Mine is a manual... spring placement may be different..

Jeff,

This is off my '69 396/350 set up... can't imagine the '70 would be any different.
Attaches to the coil bracket.

Since that carb is a '75-newer "Mod Quad", and the throttle lever may be entirely different on an original carb, I'd bet that isn't the OEM throttle return spring location. A typical "safety" requirement is dual throttle return springs, although some folks cheat and claim that the accelerator pump return spring acts as the second throttle return spring.

Given any choice, I'd prefer the throttle return spring to be attached to the same point as the throttle cable/lever, pulling the opposite direction. The way you have yours, both the throttle cable and the spring are forcing the throttle shaft to the rear of the bore, accelerating the wear of the throttle shaft bore. Yes, the OEM did this on some applications--but it's not ideal.

Schurkey... do you know the proper set up for my application.... there is nothing in the books showing what is the correct way.... Thanks, Jeff
Don't have my service manual or assembly manual handy. I'd connect it as I described above, even if I had to build a bracket to make that work.

I'd also use dual springs.

the way mine is set up is the spring is attached to the bottom of the bellcrank on the carb... from there it goes to the little drop tang closest to the carb... you can see it in the pictures. I checked both manuals and could not find the spring #'s or location to save my life...I would assume the way mine is mounted would be correct however I wanted to make sure... kinda anal that way. Thanks Schurkey!!!
