I know, I know, I need to measure to be true and accurate. I have a set of 416 casting 305 heads on my 283. They are stock down to the rotators on the exhaust valves. Right now the cam I'm running had .436/.444 lift after valve lash. What would typically be safe for guide to retainer clearance? I've not measured valve to piston either.

Thanks,

Devin

I have found with 305 heads and umbrella seals you can get contact at .450" lift.
The retainers are long and house that Oring seal.. if you got different retainers or ground the stock ones down you can have .600"+ clearance.

Your current cam should be fine as stock head does not have the umbrella seal and stock rockers will not measure 1.5 ratio.
You may get a 1.46 or 1.47 ratio.. some will check at 1.3 from what i have read.
