I have seen several original non-console/bucket seat cars (4-speed) that all were using the "Bench" seat handle... But others here say a non-console/bucket seat should use the "console" handle...SebJr said:Sounds like yours was replaced , I could be wrong but I believe non console shifters bench or not were bent like in the pic's. My question is the shift pattern on the Knob , the way mine is worn out it seems there would be some sign of the 3spd pattern, is it possible the pattern wasn't on the Knob????
ANYONE???
You are??66 MYSTERY CHEVELLE said:This does appear to be the CORRECT shifter and KNOB for a bench seat 3 speed 66/67 SS. A good friend has the same in his/her car and it looks exactly like yours SEBJR., Here is a photo of the Knob and as you can clearly see, it has a 3 spd shift pattern on it... so maybe yours was just rubbed real hard in it's short time in that car![]()

this car was probably as low optioned as was built1966_L78 said:I have seen several original non-console/bucket seat cars (4-speed) that all were using the "Bench" seat handle... But others here say a non-console/bucket seat should use the "console" handle...
I have never seen a 3-speed pattern on any shift knobs... I think they were just blank as your is...
Has anyone ever seen a 3-speed console? I wonder if it has a "3-speed" pattern emblem, or just blank?
Pretty cool to get that original setup... I have always had a desire to find (or build) a 66 SS in total base configuration (bench, 3-speed, no guages, no options (maybe the AM radio)... White with red interior... Don't know why, I guess just like to be different...
Mine has no sign of an etched pattern at all, but it's definitely round and black, oh well , maybe some didn't have etched patterns or no patterns at all .I'll keep investigating.66 MYSTERY CHEVELLE said:This does appear to be the CORRECT shifter and KNOB for a bench seat 3 speed 66/67 SS. A couple bucks ???? and the satisfaction of helping a TC Member out.D Stroud said:say somebody just happened to have a black 3 speed ball from the original 3-speed shifter that came standard in the '68 SS they bought brand new and it had the etched "H" in it.
What would something like that be worth...
Yeh it makes sense, but a little odd sounding, actually I wouldn't mind seeing one of those, sounds kinda cool, I know replacement (aftermarket) Knobs run $25-$35 but the couple places I've looked so far have discontinued them.I f he says he would sell it see what he wants and let me Know.I actually am more interested to find out if some Knobs were blank ,mine has no signs of a pattern at all.D Stroud said:Actually I don't have one. Well not anymore. But, the one that came on our 68 SS was more of a half black ball with the H pattern on it. The shifter actually had half of a chrome ball on the end and the black part mated up with it to make what looked like a half chrome half black ball. (Does that make any sense?)
But, the one I'm talkin about belongs to a Chevelle parts pack rat that I met about three weeks ago that has a small storage building packed full of Chevelle parts. I saw one of those shifter balls (solid black ball with white H pattern) on his shelf. And, I'm going by there this week end to pick up some fenders from him. I'll see if he's interested in selling it.
Wow, thanks Russ that's exactly what I was wanting to know. Seeing as your shifter is straight with the chrome knob you probably don't have much use for that plain ole black one do ya. Just kiddin, I try to go on E-bay every day as i'm trying to locate several original items, if you ever come across another give me a shout.I would greatly appreciate it.russ69 said:Sebjr,
I bought an NOS knob off of ebay a while back. It is GM part number 384377, which is the part number in the assembly manual. It is all black and does not have the H pattern.
Russ
How about posting a photo of that knob Russ? Was it descrbed as NOS for 66 or 66/67?russ69 said:Sebjr,

For $10 I'll probably take it , I would like to see a pic if you can get one posted, I am however starting to believe that mine may have been blank from the factory.D Stroud said:OK, went too the guys house tonight for the fenders. He still had the black 3 speed ball so I picked it up for $10. It is not etched, but it does have a white H patterned on it albeit slighlty faded.
Its yours if you want it for $10.00.
I'll try to get a pic of it posted up in the morning.
