I have a '68, and I am deciding on which way to go with wheels/tires. To complicate things, I just got a free pair of 295/50 15 tires handed to me. I have a pair of the vette 8" rallys for the rear, and some 7" to put on the front. Would these tires be to wide to use on the rear with these rims? 10" rims would seem to be the better choice with that tire, but I already have the rims, and now I have the tires (and the price was right!). I gather from a search that 275/60s would look and fit better, but now I'm near the end of the resto, and the budget is pretty used up.

Per BF Goodrich.. they recommened there 295/50/15 be installed on a wheel that is between 8 and 11 inches wide. However I would suspect they would cause clearance issues with the quarter panel.

If you had 17" it would could clear the shock mount and move the wheel further in, but thats another story.

I had 8" Vette rallys w/295's on my 68 when I sold it. It was a little tight on the outer lip but did not touch and the lip had not been ground on or modified. It was also just a little lower than stock as well.

I have corvette rally 8" on my 69 chevelle. I have had 315/60/15 with a little issue because of the tire height. I had the 325/50/15 and no issue but I did roll my fender lip. Cutting every 1" and tapping lightly with a rubber hammer. With the 295's there was no issue at all. On my 8" rim they looked nice and drove nice, never came close to rubbing. I didn't have to do any rim lip mods until the 325's went on.

I ran 295 50's on my stock 72, put them on a 10in wheel with 5in back spacing, rubbed the lips of the quarters, put air shocks on, worked, sh!t canned them, put the tires on a 8in wheel with 4 1/2 space and no issues on rubbing. fit nicely. they do look better on a 10in wheel though....only thing i don't like about 295 50's its a short tire

I have 295/50/15's on my 68 chevelle with zero issues. A straight up 4" B?S fits but fit's even better with a 4 1/2 B/S.

The 15X10 rim would fit best with a 5 1/2 B/S.

I've ran as big as 325/50/15's on my 69 chevelle with a 8 1/2 in rim with a 5 1/2 B/S. No fast cornering but they fit with a pinky clearance on both sides. Ran them for 18 years.
