Hey guys,

I have a 68 chevelle malibu convertible and I plan on changing the rear tire size to BFG radial 295/50/15s I want to pair them with cragar SS wheels but am unsure on wether I should use 15x8 or 15x10 wheels and not sure what backspacing I should use. I want the wheels to be level with the wheel well if not a little tucked in but I'm not sure what size wheels and backspacing I need. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks guys!

Ya I considered 5.5 backspacing but the cragars i want (SS) only come in 4.25" backspacing. I'm raising the rear via air shocks so clearence won't be an issue but Not sure wether the tire will stick out past the fender well or not with a 4.25 backspace

the 4.25bs will push the tire into the fender lip badly.
air shocks suck when they leak or don't hold air
your tires will get sliced up badly...
my 68vert had slightly less room for tires than the 68coupe
i ran 255/60 on the 15x7x4.25bs ralley rims : it looked nice
i think the 275/60 tires would work also with a 4.5-5.5"bs rim:thumbsup:

don't use air shocks horrible ride and bad for the shock mounts.
I have 295/50/15 on my 72. I used cc501 cargo coils with drag bags in the springs. Bilstein shocks. no problems with tires hitting and nice ride. see photo in gallery.

I ran 295/50 on 15x10 with I believe ~3.75" BS or so...the tire was even with the chrome trim on my 71. Needed to be raised and stiff so it didn't rub hardly any. If you roll the lip properly it won't cut even if it does rub so it doesn't hurt anything.

That said like mentioned above you can custom order the wheels for proper fit. I was using old school slotted mags which I have never seen with a decent amount of BS.
