258/219/270/229, 114/110, .456"/.479" gross lift and need's .022" hot lash on both sides!
Next, the great old 300-36 Holley dual plane, true high-rise intake along w/ a TUNED 600 cfm 1850 Holley 4-barrel, then a cheap set of 1.625" dia., 4-tube long headers and go!!!
I would rather install 1.5" headers but I don't think that they are even made anymore like back in the old days!
This little sucker will put a smile on your face that Mr. clean can't wipe off!
Now, if you want a "balls-out" 283, then get her up to 11 to 1 CR, install 1.94"/1.60" double-hump type or 305HO, -601 type heads, then run the Isky Z-30 solid lifter cam! along w/ needed valve springs!
Geared and tired right in a light car and this little monster will bite many a big motor.
And it will rpm as high as you have nerve enough to hold your foot in her!!!!!!!!!
He, He!! I love hearing onna these short-stroke little jewels rpm up top!!!!
Ran my 283 with an Edelbrock 2101 Performer Intake and liked it. Putting the 283 back in this week with 416 heads (1.94/1.50) from a 305 and an eddy 2701 Performer intake. Plan on using the Eddy 500 CFM carb but I'll try out the 600 at some point to check out the butt dyno feel...
Kudos for running the 283! You can wake it up with an intake and carb...
I ran a performer intake and holley 600 with 1.5 inch headers on a 307 and it really woke that motor up. With the stock cam it still had very nice street manners, but it pulled night and day better on top.
