Anyone running a 20W50 weight oil using Morel 4603 lifters?? I know the recommended oil is 15W40 as per Straub, but my local builder is telling me to use VR1 20W50 because the Morels can be loud, which mine are. Only have a couple miles on rebuild though. Thx

Check with Chris on the oil. If I'm not mistaken there was a post about viscosity, and the Morel lifter.

Thanks guys, I think the recommended oil as per Chris is a 15W40. I was just wondering if anyone was running a 20W50? The 15W40 Delo is what most guys are using I believe??

Mine are real noisy at start up and eventually quiet donn a lot when hot. The forged pistons are a bit noisy too but settle in about the same time as the Morels do. Set at 1 1/4 turns and 10/40 Syn. Blend oil.

I have run 20/50 Castrol GTX with mine. They were noisy at startup and quiet down when hot. I'm not worried about it. I switched to the Rotella 15/40 only because I was running it in the Chevelle and that is a solid roller. So now I use it in all 3 cars.

Morel hyd roller are not to be run with 20W-50. MOrel made a lifter that was specific for that oil and has since discontinued it. Nothing higher that 15 on first number and nothing higher than 40 on second.

Go to Wally world and buy the Delo. Its a great oil, at a good price and you dont need the flat tappet wear additives Brad Penn oil has. I use the Brad Penn for the Chevelle's solid flat tappets. I didnt know they made a 15-40, else I would have got a case of that instead of the 10-40. Your Morels dont need all that ZDDP. Delo has a-plenty anyhow.

I use a 5-40 synthetic with the street morels past their reccomended limits....
244/248 @ .050 and .630" lift. Never heard or had a complaint about lifter noise.
