Would you participate in a group show during Blue Suede Cruise?

Guys,

Does anyone in this group still show and race their Chevelles? Why not set up a Chevelle meet inside the Blue Suede Cruise at Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, OH? I’ve set up a meet for my First-Gen Monte Carlo group and it’s going well (50+ signed up).

Why wouldn’t this work for the Chevelle, Lemans, Cutlass or Skylark contingent? It’s hard to believe that as inflation and the war on gas rage on, guys don’t want to get out and participate like it’s going out of style.

Thoughts?

July 28 - 30 2023 ?
You are setting up a show within a show just for 1st gen Montes ?
Rick, this is actually my second year coordinating/promoting the First-Gen Monte Carlo Takeover, which is held inside the Blue Suede Cruise. I'm working closely with Bill Bader, the track owner to make this event happen. At this point, we've got 32 officially registered and nearly 70 total signed up in various Facebook invites and verbal confirmations.I'm hoping to convince all who are interested to officially register so we ensure enough space to park together.

This got me thinking...why couldn't/wouldn't a well-motivated Chevelle owner try to create something similar? Aren't '68-72 Chevelles more popular than First-Gen Monte Carlos? Seems like it would be easier convince Chevelle-owners to make this happen than Monte-owners.

Anyhow, what do you think?

It makes me sad that my past history with autos will likely be very different in the coming years due to things out of our control. We need to drive and enjoy before that privilege is taken from us.

Rick,

Exactly my sentiment, we need to get busy today. The golden age of hot rodding is in its death-throes as the war on fossil fuels rages on.

Don't wait for a better tomorrow, get some now before it's too late.

So yeah, I'm not willing to let the terrorist win.

Been years since I've been to Norwalk, it's an awesome place. And my Chevelle is finished in a blue suede lacquer.

I'm gonna pencil it in, hope others will too!

This thread was really created to gauge interest in a group Chevelle event. I’m already organizing a group meet at the Blue Suede Cruise for my fellow First-Gen Monte Carlo enthusiasts. With the strong following the Monte group has been able to create, I thought it’d be cool if the Chevelle crowd would put together something similar.

What the Chevelle crowd needs is a Chevelle owner (maybe two or three) with the time, motivation, and knowhow to push hard to make this Team Chevelle get-together one to remember. The Blue Suede Cruise at Summit Motorsports Park is the perfect location and venue for this event. Good access to food, restrooms, drag racing, and a monster car show. The icing on the cake is that you can take passengers down the track during the fun runs.

I can tell you what’s worked well for our Monte get together.

1. Reach out to Bill Bader at Norwalk and let him know what you’re doing and confirm if he can allocate a group space for how many cars you expect to show. Alternatively, you could meet up outside the show and drive in together but then there’s no guarantee there’s a space close(er) to the action.
2. Use Google to create a registration form. Collect basic information, use this to let Bill how much space you need. Google gives you low-level analytics which are helpful in planning group activities.
3. Create a Facebook event in the local Facebook Car Show, Cruise-in, and Chevelle groups - link to Google registration form you created. I can share some of the more popular Ohio Car Show Facebook froups, if interested.
4. Create an Event thread in the popular Chevelle haunts. Not everyone has Facebook, you need a way to engage that crowd too.
5. Share updates in the groups and forums - as more register, excitement builds and this draws more from the sidelines.

If all goes well, we might even be able to organize a few Monte Carlo vs. Chevelle drag races. If you want to see how the Monte thread is going, take a look.

Not trying to undermine the efforts to attract Chevelles to this event, but FYI there is already a huge Chevelle only event being held annually in the Cleveland area. It has been put on by the Northern Ohio Chevelle Club for the past 15 or so years and is usually the first weekend in August.

Thanks, I’ve heard something about this event. How many cars?

I really have no dog in the fight, I suspect we’ll field 70+ First-Gen Monte Carlos during Blue Suede Cruise.

Normally it's around 200 Chevelles. That's usually been the limit NOCC has put on it. I've attended 8 of them so far.
Thats awesome.

Maybe that’s why the Chevelle numbers seem relatively low at Blue Suede Cruise, at least for how relatively common they are. Could use the Blue Suede Cruise as a warm up for the hotel event?

The fact that it’s the “Northern Ohio” Chevelle Show might help to explain why I don’t see many (pretty much, any) Monte Carlos signing up from the Central Ohio area…but Northeast Ohio is completely loaded., as is Southeast Michigan.

No one interested ??
Rick, I’d have thought there’d be more
Interest in the event. On the First-Gen Monte side, we have 44 registered and I’d guess we’ll see. 70-80+ cars.

In 1986 a friend and I started a club, Michigan Muscle Cars. 1962-1974 cars. Had about 30 members and started a cruise at a local fast food joint. We did pretty good averaging about the same # of cars at the cruise. Some might not think that is many but, there were no cruise in at that time so it was difficult to get the word out past the local area. Now we can go to multiple cruises 6 days a week.
