Hey everyone, I am finally just about ready to rock with my El Camino with it's new 200r4 and of course, there's an issue.. :( I have done a bunch of reading of setting up TV cables, but haven't found anything answering what I'm wondering.

I have a Holley 3310 750 vac. secondary carb, with the geometry correcting bracket. I am using a universal adjustable TV cable, but also have the cable from an 87 Monto Carlo SS here to use if need be.

My issue is that the TV cable does not seem to have enough travel to work with being wide open throttle. To start (just to install it) I set it so that the TV cable was just slightly pulled out at idle, but then the cable can't come out far enough to reach wide open throttle of the carb.

If it set it so it is appropriately tight at WOT, the TV will have to be already extended ~5/8" out at idle, or I lengthen the cable a little bit and it will be totally loose at idle... I don't know.

What should I do? Thank you very much once again!

I use the Lokar TV cable setup on my 700r4. It allows micro adjustment to get it set just right. A bit pricey but I think it may be less trouble than a stock setup. I also have the correction geometry bracket on my holley. Works very well....

I have an adjustable cable, the problem is that it doesn't seem like the cable will travel far enough to go wide open throttle, unless I have it set that the cable is already pulled out about 5/8" at idle.

If you start with your cable, the outer part, fully collapsed, take your carb linkage to WOT position. This will pull the outer part of your cable to the right position, allowing you to get WOT and the proper position at idle.

The goal is to have 2/3 of the TV travel behind the throttle shaft centerline and 1/3 forward of the throttle shaft centerline.

How much travel does the cable have? Should be roughly 1 3/8 with the cable pulled to the point of the arm touching the plunger to full extension. Or the same as your travel on the carb linkage.

This may help... """ IF """, A 200 and a 700R have the same TV CABLE ADJ.
From Carb. Throttle shaft Centerline.... Go down towards the firewall, D. Side 1 & 1/8" or 1 & .125 @ 58 degrees. Mark this spot. This is where the ( nailhead looking connector attaches).
NEXT: Mount the square hole bracket for the perm. mount for the TV. Cable. ( I used the bracket from my 70 307 engine ) If you need this measurement let me know.
After this is done set the TV cable in the square hole as close to the rear of the hole as possible, WHY?
When all measurements are correct,,,, Push the throttle pedal down VERY SLOW WHY?
The 700R4 & the 200(if the settings are the same) Will adjust itself to shift correctly. Under normal acceleration it should shift at 13--36--loc up around 55.

My 700R4 has been working fine for 9 years behind a 468. The nail head piece I made from a 8/32 or a 10/32 machine screw to make it EZ to center it and double nut it forever.
I hope some of this may help. Again,,, I am not sure if the TV Cable for a 200 & 700 Adjustments are the same, Just passing some info.

This is a P.S. to the above 700/200 info. For the rear bracket proper location... For the folks using a Q-Jet and a 700.
Find an old Chevy P/U with a T-400. The bracket that is bolted to rear of the Q-Jet. It has the correct size Square hole and when bolted to a Q-Jet. It locates the rear (square hole) bracket in the proper location for a 700R4.

Sounds like you are concerned that the plunger is too far our at the idle position...if I remember right, mine was out over 1.00". A call to Bow Tie Overdrives tech guy will fix you up in one phone call. I had to install their spring to make it work correctly.
