200r4 swapped into 67 in place of a TH400. single wire 4th gear synchro. Trans is out of a 87 Monte SS.

if I drive fairly aggressive, it does fine.

If I'm idling through neighborhood at 25, when shifting from 1st to 2nd, it seems to 'hunt'. Can't swear it is trying to go up into 3rd too soon, but that's about how it feels, or maybe just going into 2nd too soon when i'm just idling around.

If I manually shift it and stay in 2nd at low speeds/rpms, it does fine. Open road, and getting on interstate, etc., it does fine. It just seems to be erratic on idling or soft throttle situations.

EDIT: 1.) It typically has a fairly harsh 'hit' from 1-2 shift. 2.) searching seems to indicate the TV cable might be out of adjustment. I have to assume they did it by the correct procedure when they put it back in, but I'll run through the steps when I get back in town, and see if it makes a difference. I would be greatly pleased if that's all it is, but things are seldom that easy....

Anything 'simple' to try to diagnose, or even if I had to pull it back out, is there something I need to tell shop to look for. It had been 'gone through' before going in, but that doesn't mean everything had been replaced I'm sure.

Thanks,

That seems fairly common mine does it sometimes. You could try a click or 2 either way on the cable.

I'd make sure the TV cable is set right before looking any further if it were me. There are too many weird symptoms with the 200 and the 700's that can be caused/fixed with the TV cable adjustment.

My 200 doesn't always shift into 2nd as soon as other times while rolling thru the neighborhood. Sometimes a very form shift into 2nd, other times I might bump the gas pedal to encourage it to shift.
