recently my mom and dad was ripped off at the dealer. mom had left the gas cap loose and caused a check engine alarm. they went to the dealer and was charged 175 bucks to reset the engine code. :O I know on some of the 90's cars you could disconnect the battery to clear engine codes but I just dont know about the newer cars. anyone know a safe way my dad can reset these codes if he needs to in the future. thanks

Drive it long enough and it will reset itself.

Go to Auto Zone and use their scan tool, it's free. It will give a rough diagnosis and clear trouble codes.
