I finally have a shop that is big enough. It is 14' in the center and the roof slopes to 10' walls at the front and back so I should be able to fit about any lift.

I was thinking of a 2 Post maybe a Bendpack, but one of my co-workers said his dad just sold a 2 Post because it was too narrow and you couldn't get in and out the doors on the 1/2 ton Ford trucks they have without going through the windows.

I have a 67 and a 69 Chevelle that will be on this lift allot as well as my dad's 53 1/2 ton 5 window Chev truck. It would be nice to do oil changes and change tires on the 03 Suburban but I could live without it.

If I got a 4 post could I get the tires off? I also will be doing allot of body work on the Chevelle 1/4 pannels. My co-worker said they make a adapter so you can get the wheels off on a four post. I was so sure I wanted a 2 Post until I talked to my co-worker but now I am unsure.

Any thoughts?

If it's a working lift you will want a 2 post assymetrical lift, I feel the 4 post lifts are for storage only.

I know you can get different heights and widths, so you will probably need to find a dealer in your area to get all the correct information.

I have always wanted a lift and have about 13' ceiling just for the "one day" but I feel I will really miss the room a lift takes up as that bay then becomes a dedicated lift bay only.

The 4 post lifts I have worked with are a pain to lift the tires off the ground and the ramps are always in the way. So I feel they are for car stacking only.

I have a Rotary 4 post, and their accessory for raising the front or rear end with air. I love it! I can pull on the ramps to change oil and lube without having to get out and set the arms like you do on a two post. I can open the doors with out a post in the area. I can do front end work or brake work with the accessory, getting the tires off the ramp, like I'll be doing this weekend rebuilding a friend's Buick Skylark front end.

I have a Bend Pak 4 post and wish I had a 2 post. If you anticipate doing a lot of suspension/tire stuff the 4 post is a pain. I never really considered the addition you can add to raise the car off the runways. It was heavy and expensive. You'd have to take it off to do other work on the car. I would recommend Bend Pak however based on my experience.

Hey John,

Do you know what the minimum garage height is required for these lifts? I am going to be building a garage with a 10' height and I don't know if these will work sometime down the road.

Thanks
Check the specs or call the manufac. is best. I'd guess 11 feet min or get a 4 post.

I think I am going with the Bendpack 2 post. The new ones can lift simetrical or asmetrical. They are on sale right now for $2750 free shipping.

I think a 2 post is more practical. Right now I have a 2 post. It's only a half height lift, but I plan on a full height lift shortly. Having a list now I wonder how I ever got by without one

Rotary is probably one of the best lifts that is out there if not the best. The also own a company that is called Revolution (http://revolutionlift.com) that is also a great lift.
IMHO 4 posts do everything a 2 post can and then some

I love this lift. Only complaint is I wish I had a full height lift (someday)

I bought the lift through a group buy on the Garage Journal forums. I had one small problem recently, but when I called Dannmar, they sent the part out immediately. Received it a few days later and lift is back in operation,

If you have low ceilings, this lift is perfect

Your buddys dad probably had a symetrical lift, they are not handy to get in and out of the car. Assymetrical are designed so the car sets somewhat back of the posts so the doors will open more. Your choice of 2 or 4 post is what you plan to do most. 4 posts are better for storage but you will be tired of working around ramps halfway through the first job if you are working on wheels or brakes. I makes no difference how much you spend on the lift, if it is not on a GOOD concrete base it will be dangerous. Also, there are low ceiling lifts available that are less than 10'
