A "must have" movie. Notice that the human actors don't even have names, there just called "the girl", "the mechanic", etc.

The same 55 was used in American Graffitti.

Most non-car guys don't get this movie.

I love this movie, regardless of the missing wrecks, shootouts, and high tech camera work. The race across the country against the GTO is just as good as cannon ball run. Someone in VA owns a clone of this car and I thought it was a great car to look at.

Is it on DVD yet?

A fellow by the name of Walt Bailey owns the Two Lane 55 now. He has for a couple years when to shows with it. He has a nice web site that you MUST visit twolane55.com. I saw him at Musclecar Madness this past summer in York, PA. Nice guy! He also has taken the car back to several of the location in the movie and posted some nice pics of how the place looks now. The drag strip in the movie is Lakeland Dragway outside Memphis. Check it out!!!!!!!!

I believe there was three cars made for Two Lane 55. One for interior shots, outside shots, and another. He owns the one mainly used in the movie. The same car was used for Graffiti, but several things were different. His site has all the info.

That 55 was a real runner... Ran 10.90's which was really fast for 71, and it put up with filming the movie...

The 55 they used in American Graffiti got rid of the tunnel ram so it was more drivable.

Interesting fact; James Taylor learned to drive a stick in that car, on the first day of shooting...

TLBT is the best car movie ever made, IMHO. Popping the DVD in and watching it or watching it on TV feels like opening a time capsule to the early 1970's or late '60s.

INterestingly enough, TLBT is also VERY popular with the "art house" movie crowd  , hence its broadcast on Sundance. They actually had a showing of it here at an art house sort of movie theatre, and Monte Hellman (director) was there in person to discuss it. I wanted to go to get my DVD autographed, but just couldn't make it as it was only a one night showing.

The '55 is great, but I also wonder what happened to the GTO(s). I read somewhere that Monte Hellman actually owned one for a while and then sold his or ?.. It's fate was/is unknown. Too bad, as a '70 Judge Ram Air IV is a GREAT car!

Yeah...I can go to blockbuster and rent it, then not return it and automatically own it for around $20. Not brand new, but if they are really that valuable ;)

I wouldn't do that.

Surprised, though. Were they a limited production run or something? Why so much $$$?

Could you say what time it's showing? I watched it years ago and would like to try to check it out. Maybe with some buddies. Hmmmm...maybe we should require everyone to put a little grease under their nails and eat nachos, dogs and other finger food and listen to some Beach Boys and sweet baby James, while waiting for the movie to come on. ;) Gearhead Gathering! WooooHoooo!

Yes, they were produced for a very short time a few years ago, and are no-longer available :(

I was walking through Best Buy and saw a 1 of 5000 collectors tin of it on VHS back in 2000. Got it for 10 bucks. Comes in a larger tin with a cool booklet.
