Just curious... I have a '67 2 door hardtop, when folding the driver's seat forward, the top of the seat hits the steering wheel before being allowed to fold all the way forward. This happens even with the seat all the way back in the tracks. I'm just wondering if this is normal...? I recently installed an ididit column and aftermarket small diameter steering wheel. The column is slid all the way forward too. I honestly can't remember if this happened with the OEM wheel and column. Is this normal...?

Even without headrests, my '70 and numerous '66's I have owned did the same thing. I don't recall seeing any car, Chevelle or otherwise, having the seat fold all the way without hitting the steering wheel...

Stu, I think the idea was maybe it could fold down to near flat without ever hitting the wheel - by clearing the bottom edge of the wheel.

Seems like a factory tilt with the wheel tilted all the way up and the seat all the way back, (and no headrest) would be your best bet to clear.

So Keithb, question: when you are saying "it happens" does "it happens" mean YES the seat can CLEAR and fold down flat forward in a tilt equipped 66? Or, by saying "it happens" do you mean even on a tilt equipped 66 with the tilt "up" and the seat all the way back on the rails, that the seat back still ends up HITTING the wheel when folded forward?

The seat back will hit the steering wheel with the tilt the whole way up and the seat the whole way back. I do not have headrest. And I have factory buckets in the correct location and the optional wood wheel

Thanks for all the replies folks! Sounds like what I'm experiencing is normal. I had the original column and wheel out of the car for a few months and I guess I just got used to being able to fold the driver bucket all the way forward. Thanks again :beers:
