All,

Im planning on putting a 496 in my 69 chevelle. It has a 2 bolt 289 block 454 in it now. Plans are to bore and stroke. My question is if i should hold out for a 4 bolt or just continue with the 2 bolt. I have ordered AFR 305 cnc heads as well as a custom cam from cstraub. Engine will be anywhere from 650-730hp and 600-690 lbs tourqe. Could put a 4 bolt cap conversion on the 2 bolt but is it worth it? Need some good advice. The 289 cast block should be a high nickle block if im not mistaken. Built in 74. Most likely a truck engine. Also came with 781's

2 bolt will be fine, use ARP studs and have it linehoned.

long as you don't go to crazy with the right foot you should be ok. after my last block ('68 4-bolt 427 + .060) cracked I purchased a pre-machined block from wheeler racing in florida. it has just the middle caps converted to 4 bolts - billet using ARP studs (necessity imho). so far no issues....

Not really cap related but I have a 4 bolt '74 289 block that the shop had to put a sleeve in one cylinder. Went .120 over on that one to put the sleeve in and he said it had a good amount of material left. I have heard that these blocks were hosses
