Hi Tim! How's this look?

1D372R541880ST
The fifth digit is H, 350 2bbl.
ST 72 > Style 1972
1D37> Malibu 2 Door Sport Coupe
TR > (7)20 > Antique Medium Tan Coated Fabric
(6)3 F PNT > Mojave Gold, Midnight Bronze Vinyl Roof
02026 > Fisher Body Tracking Number

Unfortunatly, there isn't a way to tell a real SS car from the VIN or trim tag. The only idea being, if it was a 307 or a 250 car, it would disprove the SS option. The 350 2bbl was available on the SS package, as any optional engine was available on the SS package.

The 454 would have had a W in the VIN. That would be the only way to tell strictly from the VIN. Like the others have said there were many engines available for both the Super Sport and the Malibu.

The interior is all redone but the Dash is the same and it has the gauge package with The speedo in the middle Tac on the left and the clock on the right.. If You know a way to tell it if its an SS by the interior i will gladly take a pic..

Very nice car! Something about that tachometer looks different. Anyone else see that? The door panels are probobly from another car, since the interior wasn't originally black. They might have just taken them from a Malibu. Do the wipers depress fully into the cowl?

I cannot see a Seat Belt warning light above the lighter, all 72 dashes had them and if its not there, the dash came from a 1970 or 71 model year car. Also its has a rear window defogger switch. It there one in the car? That option was very common on Monte Carlo's who btw used the very same dash but with a thin metal woodgrain overlay.

No, the Malibu and the SS interiors could be built the same, meaning you could have a Malibu with bucket seats, gauge and tach options, console, shifter. Nothing exclusive to the SS except name plates on the interior.

If the interior has been changed, the hood may have been added, the dash may have come from a Monte Carlo .

Only 1972's after a certain build date have them. There are early '72's out there without them. I think it was Jan. or Feb. of '72 they were mandatory.

If it were a Mont Carlo dash, you would probably see the tabs where the wood grained face was.
