Hello Everyone,

I saw a 1972 Chevelle 402 car with build sheet listed in the 1972 Chevelle Cars for Sale section on this site. Just wondering if anyone heard of a combination of Mulsanne Blue for exterior color, white stripes, with A51 (bucket seat) 704 (black interior). I'm sure that this car listed is original, but I usually see white interior when there is a mulsanne blue car with white stripes. Just curious.

You could order it that way so it's not impossible. I have seen and know of cars that have different interior color vs top and stripe. I wouldn't have ordered it that way. Some colors look good done that way while others do not.

IN 1970 and 1971 the default stripe top color was dictated by the vinyl or convertible top (if equipped) or simply the body paint color. In 1972 this appears to have changed as there is no listed matrix of the stripe colors and the only mention is...

Black - RPO D88/YF8; ZL2/YF8 available with all exterior colors except Midnight Bronze.
White - RPO D88/YF8; ZL2/YF8 available with all exterior colors except Antique White.

With a few exceptions (like white stripes on a white car or black on black) buyers could generally get whatever color stripes they wanted in the 70-72 era. Personally I like the white stripes on a Mulsanne Blue car regardless of the interior color.

Dale and Mark,

Thanks for the replies. Mark I love how your 72 402 looks with the mulsanne blue, white stripes, and blue interior. And Dale I agree with you on how white can only go with the mulsanne blue color. I am wanting to repaint mine mulsanne blue, wasn't sure if I wanted to do it original or not, but now I'm sure I do. I just have to figure out what the DuPont paint code is for the correct Mulsanne blue.....Mark, maybe you can help me with that since it looks like you restored yours with outstanding paint.

Thanks for the information Dale. My car is probably close to 95% original and I want to keep the factory color, but I think I'll have it repainted in bc/cc just because of how good it will look, and I don't think I'll "devalue" the car if I choose to go that route. Can't wait to get it finished.
