I have a 1972 454 W code project. When I bought it 14 years ago it was a stripped shell with a stripped frame. I don’t have a build sheet, just going off the vin, trim tag and what’s left of the car. Being a 1972 with the w code, there where only 2 transmission options. The M22 and TH400. The floor shift hump resembles what all the restoration companies call the non console 4 speed hump. Did they make any 1972 SS with bucket seats and a non console 4 speed? If so could anyone post some pictures. I’d like to restore the car back all stock. Just going off the vin, trim tag and what’s left the car is a 1972 454, M22, orange flame, white interior, built in van nuys

What DZ said x2. But without the build sheet it's tuff to say. The pic of the hump looks to be original, reason I say is the floor paint matches and there's no bracket or holes where the console mounts. Just my .02 worth

Just as an added comment.
Our 70 conv was a customer order car (yes, I have the build sheet) and it was ordered WITH bucket seats and WITHOUT a console.
I have since added a console (I wish I had not), and it has a factory appearance.

Apologies OP for intruding on your thread but I have to ask one question here to DZAUTO. Why do you wish you had not installed a console ?

ONLY because it was a FACTORY, customer order, bucket seat NON-console car. That is how it was built at the Baltimore assembly plant and I wish I had kept it that way.
Well, I could take it out, but for now, it stays.
OK, OK, OK, so now your next question is: "if that is how I feel about the console, then why did I replace the 307 with a SB400, replace the 3sp with a Muncie, replace the flat hood with a CI hood and replace the 10-bolt non-posi 3.08 with a 3.07 12-bolt posi?"
Got no good answer for you on that one.

Plus, with all that, I did multiple other changes, using only actual factory available parts-----------------------AM-FM stereo radio with rear speakers, map light mirror, remote driver side mirror, remote trunk release, trunk light, under hood light, tilt column, cruise control, light in the cigarette lighter socket, halogen headlights, 15x8 Corvette Ralleys, removed the Bowtie from the center of the grill.

Is this the car's factory color?

If so, that's gonna be a good looking ride.

That color, white deck stripes, and a W code make for a worthwhile project, IMHO. Good luck....and keep us updated/share pictures.

Ya factory color combo orange and white interior. I don’t have a build sheet and the car was really rusty, with 2 previous paint jobs. Making impossible to tell if it had stripes.

Where are you getting your sheet metal from, if I may ask?
Keep up the good work and pics!
