I have a nice 1972 monte carlo frame, and was wandering if the rear is the same as a 1968 -1972 chevelle. About from the firewall area weld back. I have the front that can be welded on, but don't want to ruin one if it won't work. Any input will be appreciated. Thanks
Chas
I think the length on the Monte frame is all in the front horn area (in front of the firewall area weld). Montes have a spacer bracket between the inner fender and the firewall whereas Chevelles do not.
Measure the side rails front to rear. I think it may work if you stub on the front Chevelle horns.
The 72 Monte Carlo is an A body like the Chevelle counterpart. The G body didn't start until 1981. The frame from a 72 Monte Carlo will not work under a Chevelle. It is 2" longer from the firewall area to the control arms.
believe it or not but my 70 monte center of wheel to center of wheel is the same as the 70 el camino we have. the monte frame was add in front of the firewall and in front of the engine.
I also think that the extra inches are up-front. I have a 71 Chevelle and had a 71 Monte at the same time, the hood is alot longer on the Monte than the Chevelle.

The first generation Monte was based on the Chevelle. There were
4 inches added to the frame in front of the fire wall and four more
inches added in front of the front wheels.
chevelle = 112"
monte = 116"
total of 8"
