i don’t have access to a sand blaster so i’ll be doing this on a budget, i’m assuming a good wash, paint stripper, acetone, rust oleum self etching primer, sand, acetone, paint 3 coats, then satin clear 2 coats?

where can i find a spray paint version for the correct color?

picked these up today for $160, apparently they’ve been sitting for a long time, after getting the tires removed i found original gm stickers for 3/4 of the wheels, i’m not sure if their from a chevelle or z28 but someone wrote “71-72 chevelle ss 454 wheels” on the inside

Sounds like a lot of work. Maybe if you fill in your location, someone near you (like me if you're near) would offer to let you use their blaster???

Cool find...
Nick
thanks and i don’t mind, i like doing little stuff like this in my spare time, i just want to make sure i get the right paint. if they come out looking nice i’ll order the trim rings and center caps and either sell them for $500 or keep them for my build

I think those are Z/28 wheels. The face on the spokes for 71 - 72 are round and the later wheels have a flat face. Another item is the valve stem hole. 71 - 72 is oval and later is round. I have 3 of 71 - 72 and 1 later style. Majority of neighbors wouldn't know of the difference. For a quick easy color. VHT has a gun metal color that looks good it fast and easy.

WHAT THE HECK, WHO REALLY CARES (OR WILL KNOW) IF THEY ARE CHEVELLE OR Z28 WHEELS?????????????????
Those 5 spoke wheels are one of the best (if not THE best) looking wheels that Chevrolet ever made. I would recommend cleaning them, painting them and putting on the car!
The ONLY, repeat, ONLY reason I don't have a set on the 70 conv is because they were not available on a Chevelle until 71.
DO NOT let others dissuade you from putting them on your car. They will look good and be right at home!
As I mentioned in another post, I DO have them on the boat trailer-----------------they seem to be just right.

I agree 100%. I even had the rear rims widened on the inside to run a larger tire.

Check out Eastwood,, years ago (as in the 80's) I had a '71 SS454. Put a set of stock wheels back on, got the paint from Eastwood.
I used the same paint and it even has the rough texture if you haze the last coat.

Seymour "Cast Blast" in a rattle can is very close to the original color when you get to painting them.
Yep, it sure is. ONLY a handful of ultra "expert" judges will be able to tell the difference.
I never saw it on Chevelles, but some Camaros had the wheels painted body color. I personally prefer the dull gray.
