1970 Swap

2287 Views 14 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  Tyoung
Ok so long story short..my 1970 Chevelle was a factory 4 speed..previous owner put a 700r for wife to drive. I replaced the engine ZZ502 deluxe crate. Runs great but now decided to go back 4 speed.

Ive already got with Paul at 5speeds and have my M22 on the way.

I didnt want to try to piece the rest together since it will be a fast turnaround on the swap i went to a few different vendors ebay etc.. and finally just said hell with it and narrowed down to OPGI / Ground up..am i missing anything on these quotes? any advise would help..thanks

Very nice Chevelle, I am partial to the '70 Chevelle. Paul is a great transmission builder and his M22 will work great behind your 502.

I would check out Russ at 4 speeds conversions for the correct conversion parts. I use Russ for all of my conversion jobs and never had an issue with his selection of parts.

What differential gearing is in your '70?
You need an 11" clutch for the 502, the 10-1/2" will be under rated for the job. You will also need to make sure you have a good bellhousing alignment using the pilot roller bearing verses a true sintered bronze bushing.

What is the cost of the Hurst shifter and install kit from your supplier of choice?

Here are some parts you might need.

Frame bracket bolts
Boot retainer
Retainer bolts
Steering column bracket
Steering column bracket foam
"G" Clips
NSS
NSS Wire
Ball Stud
Inspection plate
Inspection plate bolts
Starter nose
Shifter bracket on crossmember
Flywheel bolts
Pressure plate bolts
Bellhousing to engine bolts
Transmission to bellhousing bolts
Back drive linkage
Back drive linkage bolts
Pedal bumper
Shifter boot hold down

I couldn't bring up the shifter and install kit on OPG site to see what else is needed. The shifter boot is for a non-console car. I agree with Jody you will need the 11" clutch.
Russ
There you go, there are so many other items needed...............
