Well after 5 years of my chevelle being apart I finally got around to putting the interior together. However It appears as though prior to me taking it apart the seat frame was swapped with another year or model because it doesn't fit the floor.

I did have new covers installed but I know the guy personally and he returned the seat frames I gave him. I did call him and he said he has ran into this before because people think they all interchange and as you can see this does not. My coworker let me try his 1971 lemans seat and he fit the same way. The seat is hooked in as you can see in the third picture.

Has anyone seen this before?

I have never seen that before. Does your seat look like this one in the picture below? It should. Your seat looks like the front edge and front corners are shaped right in your picture. The wire that hooks in the floor mount looks to far toward the front of the seat. May just be an illusion. Was the floor replaced and the floor mounts are not put in the right place?

I just measured mine. From the front edge of the frame to the steel rod that hooks into the floor mounted brace, it's approx 4.5" and it hangs about 2" lower than the front bottom frame. I agree with Dan though- yours looks a lot closer than 4.5 " or down further than 2"

The floor is original and seat hooks were not removed.

I think I am going to try to modify the lower seat frame. Like you stated I think will bend the steel rod back and up so the seat sits more forward and down.

Is your seat frame constructed the same as the one in my picture? If you can not bend that wire to where you need it to be you could weld another wire to the frame where you would need it. If that would work. You should not see the floor mount when the seat is installed properly. It should be farther under the seat.

How hard is the seat to install?

I had to bend my rod up and back...

If it slides into the grooves easily then you need to make an adjustment.

After I put my interior together my seat bottom went right into place. Remember you have to use your knee and really push on these seats to get them out, so if your seat isnt doing this then it is wrong.

The bottom contour of the seat overall looks correct. What doesnt look correct is how your rod dips down right after it leaves the opposing rod at the weld.

I will take a closer look at it tomorrow. I don't have access to my chevelle today.
Thanks for the help.

The first time I tried, I could NOT install the lower cushion with all my effort. I had to loosen up the screws that hold the vertical cushion and raise the vertical seat frame 1/2 inch then the seat went together with the right amount of effort. Thanks for the tip

Looked at the rear seat in my 70 Chevelle tonight. If I run my hand straight down from the front verticle part of the seat. Bottom cushion that is. The front edge of the seat lines up perfectly with the verticle contour of the floor pan. Your seat for some reason is pushed way too far back. The front edge of the seat must line up with the drop in the floor. You should not see the floor brackets at all if installed correctly.

Well I looked at the seat closer and I have got to have the wrong seat frame. I tried to modify the seat frame and I made it worse. Now it is extremely tight between the arm rest.
The seat frame that I tried from a 71 Le Mans was the same way so I guess I need to look for another A body seat frame... :(

Can someone please take a picture of their rear seat where mine is having an issue?

I tried two more seats from a 1970 monte carlo and 72 chevelle and they all fit the same.
My hooks look factory and I am getting very frustrated.
