Hi-
My Nova keeps killing it's battery. Just bought a new one two days ago........now it's dead too!!!

What are the first couple of things I should check? Voltage regulator? Maybe an open circuit?

I would like to check a few things myself, before having to take it somewhere to be repaired.

Thanks!!!

Put a volt meter across the + and -. You should see around 12.5VDC with everything off and the battery charged. Start the car and it should jump up to about 13.5 to 14 volts. More like 13 to 13.5 at idle. If this is the case, your alternator and regulator are good. Now, disconnect the NEG cable from the battery. Connect the meter leads up to the 10 AMP configuration then with key OFF, put the meter in series between the NEG post and the cable. You should only see 'minimal' current draw in this condition. If you see over 250ma, start pulling fuses till the draw goes low. One big one to check is to make sure that the trunk, underhood and glovebox lights turn off when closed.
