Hiya,

I had a perfect front bumper on my 1970 Malibu until a body shop did some "repairs" and put one on which wasn't in as good shape. Now it's rusting and the chrome is peeling off.

I can get it rechromed professionally for about $450, or I can buy a "new" one online.

My question is whether the "new" ones being sold are as good as the originals? Am I better off paying to have mine redone? Is the quality as good on "new" ones available online?

The place I use does an excellent job. They did my rear bumper almost 20 years ago and it's still in perfect shape. Sounds like I might be better off getting this front bumper redone.
Care to share the shop name?

I am in NorCal and always looking for good shops that can straighten, re-chrome, etc

Tri-City in Tenn. Just got mine back and they are SWEET! Plus they have a lifetime warranty. I paid about 750 with shipping for both front and back. This included straightening. Turn around time is about 5-6 weeks. Google Tri-City plating and youll find the info. You wont go wrong.

X2 on Tri City, they do all mine.
Ditto.
Recently installed the rear bumper purchased from Tri City on my '70 wagon. Did an exchange...to speed up the process, they sent me one already finished and using their packaging, I returned my original back to them as a core.
Excellent!

I'd have to look it up to be sure but IIRC the bumper was $365 including shipping plus a $60 core charge...which they promptly returned to my debit card the day after it was received.
The bumper arrived here about 3 1/2 weeks after my order was placed.
