Shouldn't it say "number imported for sale", not "produced"?

Other than the engine being a restamp, I see nothing wrong....

Depends on what part of Canada it was destined for, I suppose a Quebec car would more likely been built in Baltimore, but who knows....

Why does it say 402 on the top and 396 elsewhere? Is that normal? I have no clue!:D

Re: 1970 L78

I've seen one other GM of Canada doc where the car was built in KC. AFAIK, Kc only stamped the engine pad, not the oil filter pad in 1970. The particular verbiage of NUMBER PRODUCED FOR SALE IN CANADA was discussed with George Zapora.

EXAMPLE 1: NUMBER PRODUCED FOR SALE IN CANADA is supposed to mean the car was built in Canada and delivered to and sold by a Canadian dealer.

EXAMPLE 2: NUMBER IMPORTED FOR SALE IN CANADA means the car was built outside Canada, such as in Baltimore, Maryland, and imported into Canada for sale by a Canadian dealer.

EXAMPLES 3 & 4: NUMBER PRODUCED FOR U.S. SALE IN CANADA and NUMBER EXPORTED FOR SALE IN THE U.S. means that car was built in Canada but exported to the U.S. for sale by a U.S. dealer.

Now, George did note that all these documents created are one-off, done at the time of the request and formats (wording) isn't consistent so I can sort of understand why wording, and maybe even meaning implied, is different from time to time. They aren't computer generated with specific formats where the data are simply filled in by a computer generated search function. But, being build outside of Canada and IMPORTED TO Canada for sale, shouldn't it have the same verbiage as example #2 above? The document is dated 1997 so I suppose it could be more of old vs. new wording.

I find it odd too that another GM of Canada doc I have (albeit a Z15 454 but STILL a 13637 Malibu) says NUMBER IMPORTED FOR SALE IN CANADA (SAME MODEL NO. ONLY) 231. Since the car in question was obviously built in KC, it would have had to have been IMPORTED FOR SALE and the same 231 number (remember, same model no. only - options not withstanding) should apply. Where would the 10,176 number come from? Certainly not 10,176 L78s :noway: George says of the 231 number, "But due to production constraints some Chevelles/Malibus/whatever could be sent from the U.S. to Canada if we were running short of a low volume option or at build out time to fill orders, so not all of those imported cars are necessarily LS6's. "

George also stated, "Unfortunately for cars imported into Canada from the U.S. we have no option breakdowns before 1972 model year, and they are limited at best for 1972." Whether that means specific options are not known, or options are known but just not how many of any particular option, wasn't made clear.

Should it say Z25 SS equipment at the bottom of the option sheet?
I would suspect there's probably a second sheet (or should be) showing the Z25 option as well as the ZL2 option...but...

My GM of Canada paperwork has the engine codes listed on it, T0819ED.

Good catch, but with GM of Canada docs not being consistent in other areas over the years in wording as noted but wording with options as well, this could just be another example of inconsistency.

I'm beginning to think that any current GM of Canada docs being used to sell a car can't be trusted and only those that a current owner has requested and paid for are probably correct. In other words, knowing what I know about GM of Canada docs history, I wouldn't rely on that paper to prove anything unless I received the docs from George myself. Am I off base here?

The build & shipping dates are very close… Engine cast date as stated, H 21 9 = August 21st 1969 OK,
Engine stamp date (Running Assm) T0909 = September 9 1969 OK, assembly date of car
is as stated (THE CAR'S BUILD DATE OF 10-C) = October 3rd Week… here’s
the rub, shipping date, October 22, 1969. The Chevelle would have to been built with no problems, to ship the very same week or early the next week.
I suppose it is possible, but suspect.

I thought it was odd to see A-White listed for the top color but no vinyl top option listed. If it would have an optional painted top it should say 10-Classic White. Unless the "top" color was actually the stripe color but "A" stands for white vinyl top.

Would that not 'cover' it ?

I agree, it is cutting it close.

But, they're business was building cars, I am sure the majority came down the line with no "problems". ;)

FWIW, many of the GM of Canada docs. I have seen show no more than one or two days (with three days being an exception not the norm) between suggested completed car date and shipping date.

JMO, I personally wouldn't be suspect of the build date vs. the shipping date.

JMO, I would be looking very closely at the VIN tag making sure it has never been tampered with.

As Dale stated, I would also be inclined to obtain my own docs. from GM of Canada vintage services before any money changed hands.
