Hello fellas,

I am back again and have found another Chevelle that I am going to look at. It's a running driving 454 and turbo 400 tranny. Sellers description is below. What is a realistic value? To me the only downside is the bench seat.

1970 Chevrolet Classic · Sedan · Driven 85,000 miles
1970 chevelle SS tribute Built 454 power steering vintage ac.turbo 400 transmission. New exhaust tires steering box. Laser straight no rock chips or dings. Rust free car. No floor patches or body panels replaced.

"No floor patches or body panels replaced." is always a good thing!
A good looking car, but easily distinguishable as a non-ss car with the swept dash and the lighter duty 10 bolt differential. Still; adding the 454 and a cowl hood gives it creds 😎

Looks like a real well done driver (nothing too crazy) and it should be good to go. Definite additions; I too would give it a new fuel tank and a fan shroud so I can keep my fingers....

I'll throw the first number out there; neighborhood of $30K + / -

That looks like fresh paint. Always use extreme caution with fresh paint as there hasnt been time for any rust to show its ugly head. For example a ten year old paint job is not hiding anything. Seller could be playing word games with the "no rust" (they removed all the rust for time being) and "no floor panels patched or body panels replaced" which doesnt mean they didnt fix rust in them. Just use caution as sellers sometimes play word games like that.
What are they asking for this car? What is the semi recent history. Who and why are they selling? I agree it is a poor shot at an SS wanna be. It would be better to just stay a Malibu.

I wouldn't pay more than $25K like already said, 3 bolt rad cover? 10 bolt rear end? no sway bars (couldn't really tell about the front) and an awful lot of under coating that can hide things, they make a tool that can tell how think paint is or maybe body filler? I'd get one of those to use, $25K isn't pocket change, well not for me anyway

By changing over the fuel tank and fan shroud to SS parts, does that increase the value considerably? My original intention was to do a ls swap, but with a car this clean I don't think I would do that.

I appreciate it fellas, he's a local well known motorcycle builder. He bought it from a neighbor that had for 10 plus years. He's asking 35k, which is my top end budget and won't budge any at all.

Was it recently painted? It appears that the entire underneath was recently covered with some kind of rust proofing/sound deadener.

For $35K I think you could find a better SS clone
I appreciate it. My goal is to have a 70 chevelle, it is my dream car. SS makes zero difference to me. My intention is to have a ls swapped 70 with upgraded suspension. Needle in a haystack trying to find one that doesn't have rust all over is beginning to be come a problem. Found one on Georgia with no motor and no interior for 12k, but I am concerned about the logistics of having it shipped. I don't know the cost of shipping and process of buying out of state.

if that car was painted 8 years ago and is not showing any paint issues at this point then I would say you are good to go as far as a solid rust free body. If it were me and I decided to buy it I would offer him $30K and tell him you will but it today. For negotiating bring up the things you will have to/ want to change. Such as sweep dash, 10 bolt, undersized radiator, bench seat,no console, etc. Im not digging that shifter. Looks way out of place.

Looks to me like like it was a column shift switched out to floor. I appreciate your help.

Looks nice but not much of an SS clone other than the badges. If you really want to do an LS swap then either find a car with an LS or one with no motor. You're paying a premium for the 454 in this car.

I'd get some detailed pics of the Ga. car, I agree you'd be paying premium for an SS clone that's not finished getting cloned

In my opinion a half hearted attempt at a SS clone is worse than leaving the car a beefed up Malibu. Are the SS fender emblems stick-on where they could be removed with dental floss without messing the paint? Also - At this stage removing the door upper trim is bad because you would need to fill-in the trim retaining holes. The PO should have done that before the car was painted - now it would be expensive to do that. And I agree you are paying more for the badging. Not a 35K car, but at 25-30 you may be getting a decent candidate for what you want to do.

I think you'll be better off buying a 70 SS that needs a motor (as Cheveezy said) (as in the Atlanta car) or buying a decent Malibu and add the LS swap.

The expensive stuff is done, body work, paint and interior, tires and wheels. Nothing wrong with the 454 either. My 69 SS hada bench seat and 4 SPD and a 454/500 HP. Replace the bench for bucket for $600 re foamed and covered. Offer 30k and see where it goes. BB are more rare than LS and I think may hold its value. Example is the LT's from the 90's. are worth less. JMO
