Hey all,
I'm considering buying a 1970 AM/FM 8 track player for my Chevelle. The transaction is long distance, and the seller can't provide pics, just numbers off the case. Anyone know what numbers this model radio should have? Thanks much-

I don't have numbers, but you should confirm that the color of the numbers on the dial face are a pale green. Also the very edge of the plastic face should have a green paint on it.

71-72 models have white lettering and blue paint for a blueish tint.

Who/where are you buying it from? Maybe someone here knows who it is and can verify for you.
Just a thought.

be very careful.
that radio is very rare and chances are it isnt a 70.
the numbers should be green and on the left
side of the unit there are 2 round metal caps that
have date codes on them, ask him to read them
to you. they are 4 digits first two are year
then month. it should start with 70

The numbers on the case should start with a 73, and should end with 0 for 1970. Its true the lettering on the radio face should be green and the radio should light up green when powered up. Also the pusbutton for the radio are over the 8 track door. Make sure that the door itself is in good shape because they tend to rust because they were never coated with anything.

Also ask how many pins are on the output of the radio, there should be 9 for the harness(try to get the harness). When I bought mine it did not come with a set of knobs. The front knobs are the same as any of the radio knobs for that year. The back knobs on the other hand are special to that radio, and they are the only one I know of that will fit in the bucket for the dash. I ended up finding NOS and I do have the part number if you need it (they were expensive to). It should be a big heavy radio to, about 10 lbs. beleive it or not.
