Hey guys was wondering what everyone thought, did i do the right thing by buying this freshly restored chevelle for 5,000. The car was restored than a very short time later was wrecked. The whole car is practically new. SS 396, 400 turbo, and 12 bolt. Motor checks out as a 69 396 not sure if its original to this car yet. Mint black ss interior with 6500 redline factory tach. Bucket seats. Boxed lower control arms, disk brakes, front and rear sway bars. The cars mint other than the accident. Frames wasted. Appears to be solid lifter motor runs great. Appreciate ur thoughts! Thanks

Yank the hood, fenders, front grill, bumper, and radsupport. Then decide. I've seen frames go for cheap. That car looks like a project more than it looks like parts. Rust would be a deciding factor, but even then... IMHO it's salvageable.

yea im sure ill get around to fixing it. But for now the drive trains going into my other 69 ss. The upper cowl is pushed back like an inch, but i know it can be fixed. The car has zero rust and the paints perfect as is the interior.

I'd be checking the engine code and VIN stamping on the engine ASAP. If it is a 396 375 hp and original to the car (no restamp), it would definately be a good idea to fix the car, whatever it takes. Not many L78's survived with the original engine intact, especially the manual trans cars. Many suffered from dropped valves and other problems which usually resulted in enough damage to get the engine replaced, either under warranty (CE block) or otherwise. I'd also be going through thr car searching for a build sheet and researching former owners for paperwork.

We fixed a 70 Chevelle conv. SS that was hit almost exactly like yours. We replaced half the cowl, frame, and frame mounts on the body. Keep in mind that your frame is stamped to your car. Check our repair out at www.tlcrestorations.com We just took in a 1 owner 69SS 375hp 4sp. 20,046 miles. Owner had the car tubbed in 1975. Watch as we un tub it and make it stock again. thanks, Rip

This is the second '69 car I have heard of with the 6500 rpm redline tach. Our 427 car has the 6000 rpm redline. Anyone ever figure out the time frame or plant that these cars came from if they indeed have legitimate tachs. I never say never to stuff like this. In the '80s people gave me the BS look when I said about buying a new COPO Chevelle in '69. If this is indeed an L78 car, you should get at fixing it up right away. It's worth it. These cars look great in black.

Hi, yea i havent tore the car apart yet but the tach works the car appears to have been a column shifted car. The tach or dash cluster is from a column shifted car and the column has the place for the shifter, but it now is a floor shifted with aftermarket shifter. checked the numbers on block today the casting numbers on the back of the block are i think 6963512 or could be 3963512. first number is hard to see being the motor is still in the car
