1969/396 oil pan

the guy that rebuilt the engine in the car I am restoring did not prep the oil pan correctly and now with a compressor I can remove most of the paint. The body shop is telling me that to remove the oil pan they would have to unbolt the engine and raise it in order for the pan to clear the pump. Is that correct?

people here convinced me to remove the engine in order to replace the oil pan gasket. maybe you should consider that?
