I have a 396 block been sitting in my gagarge for many years.
I used the crank and rods on another engine and just have the block left.

1969 396 block std. bore 2 bolt main
cast no. 3955272
pad T1121 JO
date K-18-8

I searched around and see asking prices between $500 and $2000 so woundering what is a good real world selling price on it?

thanks

If your not aware ,your block is:
JO 69 396 Impala 265 L-66 TH-400 2-Brl Police

So I also doubt the $2000 is likely.

$300 as is. If you have it cleaned and pressure tested for cracks then you could get closer to $500.

I had no idea some parts of the country are at $350 for 2 bolt 396 blocks. A bit high for around here. I'd say $200

$200 on low end, I have seen people ask up to $600-$800, but never get it. 2 bolts are typically bought around $300-$400 from what I see.
If someone needs that date and/or code, you may do better.

Same around here. $200 is on the high-end for a bare 396 block. I paid $100 for my last 396 short block and took out the steel crank and put it in a 454 block and made a 427. Still have the 396 block I keep tripping over. Lots of 454's on local Craigslist for $450-600. Some have a 400 trans. included.

i tried selling a complete in good condition 1966 coded .030 396 that only needed to be refreshed. was out of a 395-325 chevelle with a steel crank. forged trw pistons balancer to flexplate. sat on that thing for a year and finally sold it with rebuilt heads for $800. took me a long while. advertised on craigslist and on team chevelle. was a year or 2 ago tho. imho 396 is tough to sell. didn't get evem 1 look. good luck. if someone offered you $200 i'd take it and thank the guy. mike
