I am starting the process of reupholstering my split bench seat and ran into a snag right away. Could someone please tell me how to remove the seat backs from the bench. I removed the round keepers from the hinge posts on the left and right outer sides, but I can't figure out how to remove the backs from the center hinge. I figured they would just pull outward away from the center, but something is holding them in place. I figured I would ask before doing any damage.

fold them forward and they'll slide out from the inner detent. They've got a dam tang, you'll notice it when you have them removed.
Ok, I understand what you're saying. Thet just don't want to release. I must have to get it just right I guess. How far forward do the backs have to be folded? All the way down or just part way? These bitches are wearing my ass out. Lol

They must be pretty damn difficult to remove, because I have tried just about every position to remove them. I re-built/restored my whole vehicle, but I can't seem to remove the seat backs. After the advice I received, I figured it would be pretty easy. They are still not removed.

You Will figure it out, but I feel your pain. I must have wrangled getting my seatbacks back on for 3 hours. I kept saying the same thing to myself.....after all the sh*t I took apart and put back together on this car and now This!

Thank you. Actually, that was the kind of information I needed to hear. I now know that they can be a real PITA! It is becoming quite ridiculous. I am taking a break eating dinner and will try again later or tomorrow. This is some real bulls*×t!

Well, you might have read in another post, that I had decided to let a professional upholster install the seat kit that I purchased from Legendary Auto Interiors. I have pretty much restored my entire vehicle myself, but there are only a few things that I had left for a skilled professional to do and recovering the seat was one of them. Here is the finished product that Roy of Detroit Stiching Company had done for me, it really turned out great.

Steve to quote a famous line...
" A man's gotta know his limitations" And some things you just have to leave to the one's that know it, own it, sleep it, love it, and do it every day...
And it looks freakin awesome.
I am ordering through legendary also eventually and see that the materials they use look good when complete. Rambo steered me this way...your seats clinched it!

Thanks Casey, I appreciate the compliment. I am glad that this photo and Rambo's recommendation for Legendary convinced you to purchase a kit for your vehicle.
