I can't get by the fan sticker!!! If I were interested, I would fly myself and the best 68 expert I could hire to go see this car in person. It's the only way to make sure the car is legit. It's a nice looking car for sure, but it needs to be seen and inspected in person.

Sure is nice looking car, like Mike said the fan sticker also the chrome dip stick, exhaust bolts, no smog holes in the exhaust manifolds so that would make someone wonder what happend to the original pair and with the so called #s matching engine. I am not pointing any fingers just going by the pictures provided.

Wheel Well moldings do not belong, Alternator mounted wrong, Neg Battery cable wrong place, A Arm rubber flaps I think are mounted wrong (I would have to look it up), tie rod clamps bolts are pointing in the wrong direction, No rear sway bar in 68, wrong clips for brake line on front crossmember, positive battery cable routed incorrectly, and looks like lotsa swirl marks in the black paint. Other than that, looks like a very nice car.

It just begs the question.. WHY?? Why do guys selling RARE cars.. HIGH DOLLAR cars.. not post the info. most needed? The car is very nice LOOKING... but if it is to bring Big Money, what is it that will do that? It's the L-78 engine being original to the car

So, is there a photo of the deck stamp? :noway:

Is there a Photo of even the TRIM TAG? :noway:

any incredibly good photos over all? :noway:

I don't much about much.. I know a little about 66 and 67 SS's// but I do know that if if you are going to claim Rarity... SHOW ME THE MONEY! shots!

Purty car, I'd love to own it!

Were all 68 396's smog motors?? I thought it was still just an option then. I don't know much details about 68's though. Jeff

I saw a few things as well, mostly in the parts painted wrong category.
Grill
Engine lift hooks
Rearend
Dipstick and tube
hood hinges look silver, could be the picture.
The car also has something other than 68 dog dishes and the cowl grates do not belong to name a few.

All 68 SS396 cars had smog except 325hp/Automatics

whew...man, nice car. it's rumored less than 200 L78 cv's built.

More info. docs, etc would be nice.

regardless of the details it has the right stuff (mostly). overall a nicely executed restro. and IMO well worth 65K, although it's going to be tough to get it right now.

Somebody get the vin. I need it for my registry!

Thanks for the link Mark!

I'd hope the restoration quality is better than the typed information.
Style number - 66 13867
Body plant/number - KAN C104 ?
Engine stamp - TO306EG - typical error but both numbers are the same font; how can one be confused with the letter 'O'?
CON VIN - 158K181209 ?
Rear End - K5027W ?

What in the world is looped over the front stabilzer bar?

it's rumored less than 200 L78 cv's built.

hmmm, the ad raises suspicion. not enough hype for one thing. i've heard estimates in the range of 40 units produced for L78 conv's in '68. and i've never in my whole life seen one at shows, auctions, ect... that had all it's ducks in a row.

my '68 SS conv 4 speed with the poor man's 396/325HP would have VIN stamp shots, much more in depth description, better quality pics than this if i really wanted to sell.

and why not change the above mentioned items that are easy to fix that might be okay on a run of the mill car that are going to offend the purist who would be in the market for a $100k + car.

Yup, it is the positive battery cable.
It is missing the clip that is supposed to be bolted to the first bolt on the passenger side of the oil pan.
Ask me how I know :)

yep I know, that's why it's rumored. my data comes from early NCOA info of 20 plus years ago. I have 5 L78 cv's in my registry. There are at least another 3 belonging to TC members, so they claim. Personally, I have only seen one in person in the last 20 years and the other has been bouncing around muscle cars dealers/collectors for several years, and they all think it's made of gold or something. :D
