Hi:

My boyfriend just bought a 1967 Chevelle and I want to surprise him by decoding the cowl tag. This is what the tag looks like:

06C-026I (or L?)
ST 67-13617 KAN 40888 BODY
TR 759-A K-2 PAINT
W 2 M

I have decifered most of the tag to a production code of the third week of June. Built in 1967, Chevrolet Malibu with a V-8, 2 dr. sport coupe, built in Kansas City with Black Roncina Cloth and Black Vinyl Interior and Artesian Turqouise paint with a black top. I can not find anything on the numbers I have in red. Can you help me, please?

Thanks!!

0261 is just an internal plant tracking code or sometimes a JOB #, either way, it is not anything that tells you something about the car itself.

Brownie Points for you for being a wonderful girlfriend!!

The red questions have been answered but there's one error and one error/assumption remaining. The paint code K-2 is Emerald Turquoise, not Artesian Turquoise (a 66 color) and the 2 is a black vinyl top, not paint, just to clarify.

Second, the style number of 13617 on the trim tag does not mean a V8 engine, only the 3rd number of the VIN indicate a V8 or 6-cyl engine - a common error found in numerous publications. Although the trim tag style number will usually match the VIN's first 5 numbers, they have entirely different meanings between Fisher Body and Chevrolet's VIN format.

Kudos for taking an interest in the hobby.
