I have a 67 el camino with a straight 6 and manual 3 speed. The clutch seems to grab at the very top. Is this indicative of needing a clutch? I adjusted the Rod per the assembly manual and this is what I have.

The car has a 403 bellhousing and I was wondering if anyone knew if the clutch forks are the for the 6 and 8 cylinders....I know the adjusting rods are different although I cannot see why....

Is there a difference in throw out bearings between 6 and 8 cylinder cars.

Thanks. Dan

If it doesn't slip, or chatter, you don't need a clutch, regardless of pedal position when it engages. In general, it sounds like you need to "shorten" the length of the rod.

Do you have a minimum 1-1/2" to 2" of free play in the clutch pedal before you feel resistance other than jsut the clutch return spring and the clutch starts to disengage? If you don't, try adjusting it to that and see how it works for you.
