I have not put up a post in a long time due to trying to make progress on my build. I have some questions for my more experienced builders here. Why has this car been arounf for 40+ years and people cant make this that fit correctly for this car. I know that i am building somewhat of a frankenstein car, but should it really throw me this many curve balls? Everytime i put a new part on i encounter a new issue. It is really frustrating. But like I stated i love my car just wish is would go a lot easier. I am posting pics so let me know what you think.

Well it looks like you are off to a pretty good start although I am not sure if you are in assembly mode or disassembly. I agree, you would think it shouldn't be that hard to manufacture parts that actually fit correctly. It was done 40 years ago but baffles me that with today's technology it can not be done correctly. Nice car and welcome from another GA guy.

FYI: might keep an eye on your topics and where you post them. People have a tendency to get their panties in a wad if you post off-topic threads in the wrong forum.

The root cause as I see it is typified by the answer given to me by a rep at what is probably the largest header company. There are a lot of heads made with exhaust ports raised .300", just enough for their stock style headers to not clear my steering. When I asked him why they could not revise their product so it fit a newer style head, as opposed to a 40 year old design, his reply was,"We can't build headers for every make head that's out there."

I worked in machine shops for 45 years. Whenever I questioned why something was done a certain way, when it could easily be improved upon, the answer was always the same, "We've always done it this way." That's your answer to most things, "We've always done it this way."

A well known racer friend needed a dozen special type of bolts because he takes pride in his work and the way it looks. Since he could not find what he wanted, he made a drawing and specs, and had a bolt company make 100 bolts, so if he ever needed some like those in the future, he'd have them.

Unfortunately, we are all not that rich or talented, so we have to haggle what we buy and hope for the best. Good luck with your project and don't let them grind you down.

John. I totally feel your pain.. I bought my 67 in 1989 in high school. Two years ago i started a total frame off, And WOW it has been a nightmare. Ive got the car back together and i am almost done. Most everything i have bought has been mail order and NOTHING has turned out right. Just hold in there and know it will all be worth it on a summer saturday night when everyone is telling you how much they love your car. :)

You could try one of those spacers that go between the manifold and carburetor. You might try making your own fuel lines that don't come straight out and down at that angle, or carefully bend the ones you have. I know there are fittings that will turn your heater hose at a different angle. I have a similar problem with my car. Personally I would try to carefully bend the fuel lines. Just my .02.

Use the hoses. It is way easier. The radiator is a Griffin and works fine but if I had it to do over again I would get an Alumitech assembly with the fans.Like the one at the bottom of this link. Especially if you are running a long water pump and serpentine belts. There just isn't enough room up front. Their radiator is 1/4" thinner than the Griffin and all welded not glued. Don helped me get fans that fit even though I didn't have his radiator. Saw your other post about radiators. Go with the $960 Alumitech. You won't be sorry.
