As the title states, I have a 1967 Chevelle 300 Deluxe 2dr sedan (post). It was my great aunts car and my first car. I did a little bit of interior and mechanical work to get it running as my first car and used it for about 2 years. Since then it has just been sitting, that's about 13 years. I run it every once in a while but have not been able to do much else.

It has the standard Chevy rust spots since I acquired it, in the trunk and behind the wheel wells, they do not appear to have gotten any worse since my ownership.

My real question I guess, hopefully this is the right place to post, now that I am looking to properly restore it, what should I do? I would like to make it worth something, however don't intend to sell, only pass on to my son. So should I do a real restore of the original to hold more value or can I do a bit of a resto-mod or whatever the term is and change/update some things?

First off, welcome to our club Dan. Secondly, I'd love to get the lowdown on this car (Is it completely original, what engine and tranny, and what would YOU like to do with this car?).Unless you want to do a concourse resto, you can probably do what most of us do here and do a frame- on- resto. The body bushings are the main issue of a frame-off and you can do that without actually removing the body. Post some pics and we can go from there.

It is a 230 straight 6, original. It is a power glide transmission, other than that, I'm not sure. I recall needing some work done to the transmission when I was younger, but don't remember if it was replaced or worked on, will have to try and find out when I get a chance to crawl underneath.

Like I said, I'm not looking to sell, but would like to get the most value from the money I'm going to put into it. I know you usually don't get back what you put into projects like this, but would like to be close if the situation ever arose that I needed too.

I have a 350 from a 1979 blazer that I planned on putting in when I was younger, but then got some advice that I should leave it all original due to the rarity of the particular model.

I just took a couple of pictures in the dark, so might not get much detail, we are expecting a big storm tomorrow so won't get better photos for a couple days.

Apologies for the multiple photo posts, it won't let me post more than 1 image at a time from the iPad.

Here's some advice from someone who has almost the same car, including the color combo. The only difference is mine started out life as an original V8, 283 PG car. BTW, just like mine, your car is a standard 300, not the Deluxe.

First a little background. I restored my previous '67 Malibu as an SS Tribute. It was a complete nut & bolt restoration to factory specs, with a few upgrades such as larger sway bars, a hidden Hurst shifter with a Muncie handle, Jeep GC steering box etc. It was a beautiful driver, but a very tame cruiser. To be totally honest, the 396 I built ran perfect, but it was so boring to drive. I sold it in April 2009.

A couple of years later, I got the bug to build another car. My dad picked up the '67 300 in 2004, but due to his failing health, he never got around to doing anything to it. Before I took it off his hands in late 2010, I thought long & hard about how I wanted to build it. The last thing I wanted was another restored factory original car, especially one that involved a 283/PG. I mean no disrespect to the factory original cars out there. I love them in stock trim. However, most of them, including my previous '67, are purely trailer queens.

IMO, the '66 & '67 300 2 doors are the perfect cars to build exactly as you want. No date codes or matching numbers to worry about. So after a lot of thought, it came down to 2 choices for me. One idea was to build a car that Chevy never offered. I love the idea of a '67 300 with either a Big Block 425 HP 427 or an L-79 327 with a Muncie 4 speed. Had I gone that route, I would have made it all stock looking under the hood. The goal was to have some folks wondering if it came that way from GM. I would have upgraded the suspension & added disc brakes, etc; but left the body & interior as Chevy intended it.

What I wound up doing was a complete custom build as pro-touring car. I went with an LS1/T-56 combo out of a 2000 Z-28. All the suspension is tubular, with 2 inch drop springs, 4 wheel discs, & 18" wheels. I added a 2" cowl hood, & the firewall was smoothed with all the Vintage Air hoses hidden under the fender. The car was painted in October & just about ready to fire up. I plan on doing a full custom interior with a custom built center console, etc.

Finally if you're concerned about what the car will be worth. Here's my take. Fully restored, a 67 300 Deluxe in #1 condition with a 230 six cylinder would only be worth about $10-$12k. Custom examples of these cars bring way more money than they do in stock trim. Again, just my 2 cents.

Hope this helps.

Remember: Rare does NOT always mean valuable.
Put a 350 and turbo 350 in it, maybe get the engine and trans combo out of a running car or truck so you get all the accessories to go with it. Then drive the wheels off it.
