Guys, I just purchased my first Chevelle. It's a 1966 2door car. It currently has a bench seat and I am wanting to put in aftermarket buckets and a console in the car. I was considering putting a stock style console in it (auto) and have found several places to purchase at kit. My question is, I'm sure someone out there has installed an aftermarket shifter in their car, but can someone recommend a kit that they have used that doesn't look all hacked up and out of place? I'm looking at installing some sort of billet type shifter and just want it to look right. Appreciate any help you can give me.

When I did my 67 Chevelle I purchased the factory style shifter (cable operated) and it looks and fits in the console just as it should. You can get shift plates for 2,3 or OD transmissions and if the factory look is what your after, this may be the best way to go. Used the AAW wire kit and all the wiring matched up perfectly to the neutral safety and back up light switch. I'm happy with mine and the wife can drive it comfortably.

When I bought my first 66' it had an awful late 70's Camaro console automatic shifter that was bare metal and looked like you would get tetanus if it cut you. I replaced it with an early 70's Chevelle or Monte horseshoe style shifter and matching console. I was 18 and never had done this before but was able to figure it out. Looked nice too. When I was 30 and owned my 69' Camaro I installed a B&M Star Shifter with the standard box and no console because reproduction catalog consoles were expensive. It looked fine, even without a fancy console. My current 66' has just a Hurst sticking out of the floor. It looks clean but I would love a console. I'm just not ready yet to spend hundreds of dollars on a fancy armrest with storage :)
