1966 Chevelle 4 door hardtop (no post between doors), 327, PG, looks like the typical needs total restoration type car. Maybe sitting in a barn for 20 years....

Body looks decent from pics (no full quarters needed), clear title. Car is complete, and assembled, not in piles of boxes like so many you see on the internet.

1. What's it worth in that condition?

2. What's it worth in restored condition?

3. Good car for a daily driver? I have a 2 mile commute to work.

TIA

While a hardtop is unusual, its still a 4-door, so not as many takers out there... There are some 4-door lovers (and a hardtop would be cool), but the values aren't very high...

"Looks like the typical needs a full restoration"... "Body looks decent"...

I'd say, with NO rot, potentially a $2000-$2500 car, but without seeing it, maybe much less...

"Restored", hard to say (depends on the quality of the restoration)... But unless its something stellar, probably $6K-$10K range...

Good daily driver? If it "needs" a full restoration, then probably not... Figure: tires, brakes, steering, battery, belts and hoses, fuel tank and radiator flush, carb rebuild or swap... Flush the fuel line or replace, tuneup... Then will it need seat covers/carpet and headliner to feel nice enough ("needing " resto, I am assuming its a rats nest inside)... Could be alot of work and money to make it nice, safe and reliable...

Pictures would help a bunch...

Pretty funny that you sought out the ad. Yes that's it. I prefer not to list cars I am looking at, because I neither own nor have I contacted the owner about it. I am just casually looking for a car and wondered what everyone else thought..

Brian, is it your car? I notice you don't have your profile info filled in..... Well since the price is up.... Is it worth 2500? I was thinking less.

I bought mine for $2500. Much better shape than that one. No rust, fair faded paint.

IMO that is a $1000 parts car.

Restored 4 door cars rarely sell. I see many listed for big money but no buyers.

Mine has sold TWICE for $10K...and that was before it had a big block, TH400, and a 12 bolt.;)
But he would have to invest far more than 10k in that car to be as nice as yours. I have nothing against 4-doors, but as said, it costs as much to restore a 4-door as a coupe, and the return is not as great. Your car is the right color, stance, wheels and looks bitchin.

Like said, I see 4-doors around here all the time for big $, but never see more than 6-6.5 exchanged for a nice one, and usually 3-4.5 for a decent D.D.

Now, I know I'm going top get flamed by the 4-door guys, but stop and think, If you put the same $ in a two door as you did in your 4-door, reality is you'd get a bigger return.

Some cars look great as 4-doors...

From the craigslist advertisement...

"The floors and frame rails are very rusted"

Wouldn't touch that with a 10' pole...

Even if you got the car for free, you will lose money on it. Why? Because if somebody gave it to you, it's gonna cost at least $5000 to make it decent and more like $10,000 to make it nice. And it will still be worth less than what you have sunk into it in both cases. This board is full of guys who buy project cars that get killed when it comes time to sell, if they ever even finish it. That car will literally suck up all the money out of your wallet and then some. If that's your dream car, go for it. Otherwise, keep looking. Be smart. Lots of better cars out there for the money.

OK, looks like I lit a fire on this board. Truth is, I agree about seeing nothing but overpriced 4-doors. I was looking for something that I could buy cheap(er) and fix to be a daily driver. Just an idea I am toying with, I am not in a hurry, but there aren't many is this part of the country. Thanks for all of the advice and I'll keep looking.

I bought an excellent condition original paint 67 4-dr post car on eBay a little over a year ago, low mileage, 327 / PG, Factory Air blows cold, PS and PB, deluxe belts, 100% rust free, excellent trim throughout, and more than reliable enough to be a daily driver as is with no work required at all other than regular maintenance.

Price was $4,700, Shipping was $475, for a total of $5,175. If one wanted it to be "prettier", you could slap a budget repaint on it (no body work required) and have a local show quality car for a total investment under $7000.

I think that should give you some idea of what is out there if you are patient and keep looking until you find the right car. Good luck in your search!
