there is a red 12 ga wire running from the starter to the firewall, where it transitions to a 14ga wire going throught the firewall via a rubber grommet. The factory wiring diagram is kinda vague on where this goes.

Anyone know what this powers?

I suspect it might go to the power top pump motor.

I don't have AC, so that isn't it (in my case).

I think it is probably there to power any options not common to the the base model (like AC, power windows/seats, bed light for elco, interior lighting for wagon, power top for convertible).

I guess I will have to just unplug it and see what all goes out.

Anyone else have any guesses/experience?

Charles, If you have an assembly manual, look on the page for folding top, electric and it shows just what you are talking about. The wire connects just inside the firewall to the fisher body connector. Hope this helps.
