Hi All, found a couple of casting numbers that I can't identify - have been to www.mortec.com, but don't see anything close...maybe someone here can help...anyway, at the back of the block, right side, I found the following casting number "L762" at the front of the block the following "TI217D" - any thoughts?

As always, many thanks for everyone's advice and guidance.

L762 is the block cast date: Dec 7th '62
T1217D:
T=Tonawanda engine plant
1217=Dec 17th engine assembly date
D= Impala 283/195hp 2bl PG trans, the engine dates of Dec 62 would indicate a 63 model year

Thanks Rene...forgive my ignorance...but as this came in my 64 chevelle...should i assume it is not the original engine? is there another way to confirm that this engine is the one that came with the car...for example is the vin or a partial vin stamped somewhere??

As always, many thanks for the advice and guidance.
