can anyone tell me what these numbers on my 69 el-camino rear are,8959038nf and on the otherside is gm56.

I think you mean 3959038NF.GM56 is a factory ID stamp.
That is the casting number of the 12 bolt rear housing itself.
Some early built 1970 Chevelles used this as well before switching to 3969278NF.
