I have a 12 bolt rear that came in a car I bought but before I buy a posi how can I make sure it isnt a corporate if is such a thing in a 12 bolt and where are the numbers to identify the rear end.the rear is a 2.56 open.
Does it have c clips on the axles, or are they held in by the axle bearings? If they are c clip axles then it is the Chevy 12 bolt. The Chevy 12 bolt also has a large upside down V stamped into the cover. The O axle (other 12 bolt) has a smooth cover, like the 8.5 10 bolt.
well I have the O rear end . will a posi from a normal 12 bolt work in it or is the rear end pretty much useless??Are there any parts available for these?
You can get a new posi for it, but it isn't cheap. The 12 bolt parts will not fit in this rear end. A new posi for this rear end is around $550 and there are some popular gear ratios available for it too. All parts for this rear end are expensive.
