Do they put a vin# on the rear end? If so, where do I look for it. I am looking at one now to see if it was the original one in my El Camino.

Also look for the Cast Date Code. It must be earlier than the build date of your el Camino on the Fisher Body ID tag (cowl tag)
Post it here too.

If you have the Protect-O-Plate, you can compare the info on the axle tube and the Protect-O-Plate. The Ratio and Assembly Date should match if the rear is original to the car. The assembly date should always be later than the Cast Date Code.
