I have a friend that has an old 12 bolt that he has been hanging onto for years....since the 80's. I have finally talked him into parting with it since he realizes that he will never need it. He took some measurements and it measures roughly 56" from backing plate to backing plate. The measurement from the backing plate to the center of the spring pockets is 8.25". He thinks it may have come out of a full size car and that is an open rear.

I took some measurements on my 10 bolt and I came up with roughly 55" and around 10"?

I can get this for super cheap so I am just going to grab it. I will track down the numbers off of it and see if I can figure what it is. Any idea if it can be made to work? I plan to have it gone through before putting it in.

If its from a fullsize it wont fit, fullsize rear ends hasnt the mounting ears on the center section and brackets in different location. 64-72 a-body rears is interchangable but 64-67 is 1" narrower and 64-66 and early 67 has different spring perches than late 67-72.

Don't use backing plate measurements. Measure the total width from where the wheels bolt on. The Chevelle rear ends are 60 inches for the early 12 bolt rear ends and 61 inches for the later ones. As Marcus said, if it is from a full size car it will not work. There are no eyes cast into the center for the upper control arms.

I'll have him remeasure from outside to outside. Is it worth anything if it is a full size? I could always flip it.

I know a guy that buys up any 12 bolts, full size is fine because he's got a guy that cuts them down and adds perches for 1st gen camaros. jim

That is a great price for an Impala 12 Bolt. I use them for First Gen Camaro builds, Nova builds and for 55 - 57 Chevy builds.

full size, but it doesn't matter if you're cutting the housing to make a Camaro axle.
