My '69 Chevelle has a 10 bolt rear end and I've been looking for a 12 Bolt rear end. I haven't found anything for less than $500 and that was in a different state. I called a drive-train supplier and was told that I could buy a kit for about $380 to convert the 10 bolt to a limited slip set-up and it would hold the torque of a 454 w/ 425 hp. Does anyone know if this is a viable alternative?

Also, what is the difference in quality between a 12 bolt and a 10 bolt?

Hey my 66 hardtop came from Birmingham, I drove down there on a weekend to get it about 10 years ago..that was a bit of a ride so I dont think I will be that way again! I cant believe there arent parts all over, I saw more old cars down there just waiting to be restored then I ever saw up here in the rust belt!

Ed,
I'm in the same boat you're in. Except I live in Michigan. I'm looking for a 12 bolt for my 69 convertible, and the only thing I can find are out of state units. Here's some info though, you might want to scan the Team Chevelle for sale section. I talked to someone (I can't remember who, I discarded their email - Doh!) in Georgia who had complete "open" 12 bolts with either 2.73 or 3.08 gears for $225.00, and rebuilt 3 series posi carriers for $250.00! All prices are plus shipping, but this stuff is UPS shipable. Shoot, with him in Georgia, and you in Alabama, you just might be able to pick the thing up. I'll look for his address again.

Dave

Ed,
I just checked my "sent" email file, and I'm pretty sure the guy's email address is:
[email protected]
I hope this helps you out.

Dave, thanks for the lead! I'll contact this guy to see if he has anything. And yeah, Georgia is just next door so I'd be able to drive right on over get it.

You don't know anyone with disc brakes for a '69 do you?
